Cast bronze after model, dark patina. Round base grooved under the rock base. Barye devoted himself to the eagle theme several times.
The sculptor, who became famous for his animal sculptures, was a pupil of François Joseph Bosio. Successful early on, he soon exhibited at the Paris Salon and created, among other things, the equestrian statue for Napoleon I in Ajaccio. In 1869, he became a member of the Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts of Belgium. Many of his works are in public collections, especially in the Louvre.(1401581) (11)
