BRONZE FIGURE GROUP AFTER THE MARBLE FUNERARY MONUMENT FOR THE HEART OF HEINRICH II OF FRANCE FROM 1561
Height: 46 cm.
19th century.
Bronze with brown patina, on a three-sided plinth. Female figures, also seen as the Three Graces, above their heads a vessel in which the king's heart was buried. The monument was created by Germain Pilon, who was also commissioned to create other tombs for the court. His work is influenced by the Mannerism of the Fontainebleau school, as well as by Michelangelo. The group of figures was repeated several times on a smaller scale, especially in the 19th century.
