View of the Grand Canal with the magnificent buildings of the city on the banks, some of which are reflected in the calm water. Some of the gondolas are manned by soldiers, which could indicate the proclamation of Venice as an independent republic in 1848. Harmonious painting in restrained colors with a high light blue, almost cloudless sky.
