LYING TIGER
Oil on canvas.

In wide wooden frame.
The tiger is resting in a reclining position; many darker foliage and berry bushes hide the big cat after it has eaten its prey. Peacock feathers lying on the ground indicate its hunt. The artist masterfully created a powerful image with a noble depiction of the wilderness.
Surand was a painter, pastelist and sculptor, he devoted himself to genre painting, but showed great sensitivity for atmospheric variations and contrasts of light in his works. As a nature lover, Surand also frequently portrayed large wild animals and was able to emphasize the movement and details of the fur with skilful strokes.
