VILLAGE STREET WITH BRANCHED TREE
Oil on wood.
47 x 65 cm.
In ebonized profile frame.
A village street in sandy soil with marked grooves from wagon wheels lies next to a row of houses built partly in stone and partly in wood and leads towards a large town with several striking church towers. On the left is a branchy, only slightly leafy tree. A comparable view, attributed by the RKD in The Hague to Anthonie van Croos and also painted on wood (55.9 x 57 cm), shows a watercourse with riverbank buildings and overhanging branching trees, whose deciduous wood is formed in similar U-shape curves. This painting is registered at the RKD under no. 292153. (1401741) (13)
