SHEPHERD RESTING IN FRONT OF A TOWN Oil on canvas. 32.5 x 45.5 cm. Monogrammed "HR" lower right. A young shepherd sits on the left in front of a cloudy sky, leaning back with a melancholy gesture and looking out of the picture to the right. His flock rests next to him, while in the background another shepherd runs off towards the village on the horizon. The rendering of the different lighting moods between the brightly lit main elements of the picture and the shadowed background is masterfully executed.
