MARY MAGDALENE AS PENITENT
Oil on canvas. Doubled.
73 x 59 cm.
In pierced, gilded frame.
Against a dark, cave-like background, the half-length portrait of the saint, her face turned slightly upwards in penitential humility, her face and naked upper body illuminated by a bright ray of light. She has a delicate face, a bright red mouth, moist, shining eyes and long, curly auburn hair that partly covers her chest. A bluish shawl is draped over her wrists and her hands are carefully folded in front of her chest. Lying in front of her on the right is a skull as a memento mori attribute. Painting with effective light dramaturgy. Sporadic rest. (1400674) (18)
