WORSHIP OF THE SHEPHERDS Oil on canvas. 60 x 44 cm. Repetition of the large-format work in the National Museum in Seville, of which several examples are known. The quality of the painting probably points to a Spanish artist of distinction from the late 17th/early 18th century. Murillo has deliberately placed the biblical events in chiaroscuro, with the light emanating from the child lying on a white sheet, and the tall format with the sky extending far upwards is intended to indicate the divine reference. In contrast to the Murillo model, the individual figures and faces here are very distinctive. (14008951) (11)
