Pair of paintings TWO PUTTI WITH A BLUE FLOWERING BRANCH and TWO PUTTI WITH RED ROSES Oil on canvas. Each 77 x 62.5 cm. Each in oval. Enclosed an expertise by Dr. Klaus Ertz, 29 December 2021, copy. According to the expertise, the paintings created in the 1670s are examples of the collaboration between two painters with different specializations. In the figurative depiction, for example, the history painter Guglielmo Cortese, known as Courtoise, an Italian of French origin, is seen as the work of Abraham Brueghel. The complete oeuvre of the latter, son of Jan Brueghel the Younger, is still largely unexplored, although signed paintings allow for attributions. The two painters had met in Italy. Brueghel also worked with other colleagues, such as Carlo Maratta, Giacinto Brandi or later in Naples with Giovanbattista Beinaschi, Luca Giordano and Solimena. Gugliemo Cortese, on the other hand, was a pupil of Pietro da Cortona and worked on frescoes in the church of San Marco in Rome, commissioned by the Venetian ambassador Niccolò Sagredo, as well as for Pope Alexander VII in the Quirinal Palace. In 1657 he became a member of the Accademia di San Luca.
