THE TEMPTATION OF SAINT ANTONIUS Oil on canvas with multiple curved edges. Doubled. Approx. 49 x 30 cm. In gilded frame with multiple curved edges. The saint, probably seated outdoors, wearing a brown robe and hood and with a long white beard, seated to the left in front of an open book leaning against a cross-like wooden trunk. He is surrounded by three devilish figures or demons, but they do not interfere with his absorbed and concentrated reading. He has merely raised his right hand slightly in defense. Light seems to emanate from the cross, illuminating his delicate hands and face with its reddened cheeks and slightly lowered dark eyes.
