PORTRAIT OF A GIRL IN THE GARDEN
Oil on canvas.
73.6 x 79 cm.
Signed "G Meyer-Buchwald" upper right.
The large-format painting shows a quiet girl sitting in a garden and observing the viewer with a veil of sadness. The artist constructs a photographic composition in which the structure of the chair as well as the vegetation are cropped and the painter's angle is from above. The selected luminous and intense colour palette harmonizes with the fast, instinctive and powerful painting style. Meyer-Buchwald studied at the Dresden Academy and worked and lived in the Künstlerhaus Dresden-Loschwitz. He was a highly talented portrait painter, whose brilliant still lifes were equally convincing in their artistic charisma. The reverse of the painting is also painted with a bozzetto. (14010218) (19)
