SPANISH FRUIT SELLER Oil on wood. 25.5 x 21.5 cm. Signed "A. Kindler" lower left. Old label with artist's name and title "Spaanse Venter" verso on wood. In decorative frame. In front of a narrow, shady alleyway in a town, a Spanish market crier offers his wares in three large raffia baskets carried by a donkey standing behind him. Inside are bright yellow lemons and oranges. The sunlight falls on him from the top left and also illuminates the stall behind him on the left, which reads "Dor de Botas" beneath the roof. Painting with skillful use of light and shadow, in which the man's colourful clothing, the red belt around his waist and the blue headscarf under his black hat with red pompoms are particularly striking.
