THE MONK AND HIS MAID Oil on canvas. Doubled. 66 x 48 cm. Signed "L. Da Costa" lower left. In gilt frame. In a high, simple room, a young woman sweeping the stone floor with a broom. She is wearing a yellow headscarf, a red blouse with a colorful pattern, a long blue skirt and a white apron over it. Her smiling eyes are fixed on a small chick following its mother on the ground, pecking at a green leaf. To the woman's left is a large fireplace with a fire and a boiling cauldron, the lid of which has been opened by a curious monk in a beige habit peering inside. Atmospheric genre painting with many details; the maid's clothing in fresh tones in the color triad yellow, red, blue. (14023236) (10)
