Vienna, around 1890.
Porcelain and gilt bronze, with porcelain painting by A. Wenz.
Rectangular tower-like construction with base on lion's paws, central section with silvered and glazed dial with Arabic hours and gilt hands set into the porcelain painting. At the corners, slender porcelain columns supporting a cover plate with corner spheres, above a hemispherical dome over spindle feet. Superstructure elements cobalt blue with raised gold painting. The walls of the case are painted on all sides in porcelain: pastoral scenes in landscapes based on French rococo models. The cartouche painting on the dome depicts the "beautiful Melusine", the knight with harp. The porcelain paintings are of high quality. Signature "A. Wenz" in the pictures next to the motif numbers. Balance movement with movement number 12016 on the plate. Half and hour strike on gong. Base and movement housing screwed to the inside. Viennese porcelain mark on the base: double round-arched shield in red with inscription "VIENNA" and "AUSTRIA". (1401094) (11)
