Georges Meier, better known as Georges Major, was a German Protestant theologian (1502-1574) who taught and took part in the controversies that divided Protestants. He was the author of a number of theological works, as well as this collection of opinions and commentaries by ancient poets. The work is completed by a text by Antoine Mancinelli on the virtues of poetry.
