THE BARBARIANS ARRIVED
This necklace is one of a series of similarly inspired creations, including jewelry that Madame Jeanne Boivin called "Assyrian" or "Celtic", some in silver or vermeil, some in gold. This eclectic taste was shared by Madame Boivin and her designer Suzanne Belperron. The same curiosity, the same visits to museums and exhibitions, all mixed together in the swirling melting pot on the second floor of the Avenue de l'Opéra.
Ref: Françoise Cailles, "René Boivin joaillier", ed. de l'Amateur, Paris 1994, p.67. In this magnificent full-page period photograph, we can compare the finesse of the necklace reproduced with the supple execution of the piece presented in our sale.
