Geographic wall clock signed 'S Glaire Horloger à Nancy', mid-18th century. D. Silvered brass hour dial with Roman numerals I to XII x 2, each series marked 'Heures du Matin / 'Heures du Soir'. This dial, which bears an arrow-shaped index in blued steel, is movable in the center of a second silvered dial divided by forty-eight rays, each marked with the names of one, two or three cities or regions worldwide starting from Antwerp/London; Nancy, Paris Orléans, Limoges, Caors [sic], Toulouse, Barcelona and Algeria Algiers. The first meridian is marked for 'Madeira Canary Islands' and the names of approximately sixty places are indicated. Brass bezel, glass missing. Small rectangular movement (84mm x 58mm) with brass plates, barrel, horizontal verge escapement, single balance wheel, wire suspension, center dial mounting; gilded and reddened wood case symmetrically carved with four foliage compositions (two openwork) on an acanthus background; old (inventory?) number 1844 inside the case. One crack and some wear.
