A photo book boldly signed by Roman Vishniac, with a foreword by Elie Wiesel. First Edition, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Hardcover in original dust jacket. Signed by the author on the flyleaf: "To Frances, It should never happen again, Roman Vishniac, 1985." A second dedicatory inscription dated 2002 on the endpaper. This lot also includes a NYC Council proclamation in recognition of the photograpaher.
Roman Vishniac (1897-1990) was a Russian-American photographer, best known for capturing on film the culture of Jews in Central and Eastern Europe before the Holocaust.

Near perfect condition. Small tear on the top back edge of cover page. Sligh wear on top and bottom of spine cover page. No signs of restoration or alteration.
