Mstislav Dobuzhinsky (Russian, Lithuanian, 1875-1957), pencil on paper drawing depicting a portrait of Maria Simonsen, known as Mau. Mau, a Danish girl with whom the artist was romantically involved throughout his life. Monogrammed and dated 'Copenhagen 1923' on the lower right. Mstislav Valerianovich Dobuzhinsky was a master of the urban landscape, illustrator, theater artist, member of the creative association "Mir Iskusstva" (World of Art), art critic, and memoirist. Dimensions: 11 1/2 x 9 1/2 in., (29 x 24 cm.) Good overall. Signs of foxing on paper. Creasing along top right corner. Small tears along the left and right edges.
