First edition. A first edition copy with the rare first publisher's boards.
Green percale, gilt plate on the first cover and special iron on the second, decorated smooth spine, gilt edges, publisher's binding.
Good condition of the engravings, foxing to the text, publisher's binding uniformly faded for the green colour, but gilding intact, small snags to the headpieces.
The large plate with snail, dragonfly and butterfly which covers the first cover, engraved after a drawing by Grandville, is signed Peau, and not Telu as Sophie Malavieille erroneously indicates in Reliures et cartonnages d'éditeur en France au XIXe siècle, pl.64.
