Alexey Petrovich Bestuzhev-Ryumin (1693-1766) was a Russian statesman and diplomat, Chancellor of the Russian Empire under Elizabeth Petrovna until his disgrace in 1758. After the 1762 coup, Catherine II restored all his rights and titles and promoted him to Field Marshal General; however, he no longer played an active role in the political life of the country. Bestuzhev-Ryumin was a great enthusiast of medal-making. He minted medals to commemorate the Treaty of Nystad (in 1721 and 1763), his exile (1757-1762), and the ascension of Catherine II to the throne (1763).
