Depiction of a landscape with frozen water, ice skaters and a horse. On the left, thatched houses and leafless trees. Windmills are arranged on both banks in the distance. On the right in the background is a church. De Meyer was a pupil of the landscape painter Andreas Schelfhout. They travelled to Germany together in the 1830s. De Meyer mainly painted Dutch landscapes with lakes, forests and windmills, occasionally enriched with figures and houses. In addition, he often painted lively winter landscapes with ice skaters.
