Festa, Tano (1938-1988) attributed to "Pinocchio", 1970/80s, oil/marker/tempera on black paper.
Figure with a long nose and blue conical hat, gazing cheerfully at the viewer. The figure is directly reminiscent of the stories of Pinocchio. Pinocchio is Italy's best-known fairy-tale character. The name "Pinocchio" is a play on words. It is made up of the Italian word "pino" (pine) and the diminutive form of "pinco" (fool) and "occhio" (eye).
The work must have been created in the 1970/1980s; when compared with his catalogue raisonné, the present work fits exactly with works such as "Portrait of Liverani" or other portraits.
Contact with Mrs Anita Festo has been established. An inclusion in the Archivio of Tano Festa is in progress.
