[Manuscript]. [Botany]. TRAITÉ DE BOTANIQUE élémentaire. Terny, June 1883. In-4 (22 x 17 cm.), contemporary soft dark green basane, smooth muted spine, initials "C. H." gilt on upper cover (headbands and corners worn, some rubbing, lower hinge cracked).
A remarkably diligent manuscript. It consists of a title leaf, and 52 unencrypted leaves written in r° and v°, i.e. 104 pages.
The text, written in black ink, is illustrated with a large number of figures drawn and captioned in blue ink; these figures are of admirable finesse and the manuscript is free of all erasures.
Ferny is a commune in present-day Ukraine; the name of the scribe is not mentioned.
Provenance: Ivan Gagarin (1814-1882), scholarly Russian diplomat, Jesuit and co-founder of the journal Etudes (engraved armorial bookplate).
