Gouverneurs lieutenans de Roy prevôts des marchands echevins procureurs avocats du Roy greffiers receveurs conseillers et quartiniers de la Ville de Paris... [Paris, between 1735 and 1789]. In-folio, contemporary havana calf, boards with the coat of arms of the City of Paris, bordered by a gilt roulette and double gilt fillet, gilt edges, renewed smooth spine decorated with fleur-de-lis fleurons, original title page retained (scratches to boards, rubbed edges; fold of one board split without missing; some marginal soiling). Commissioned by Michel Etienne Turgot (1690-1751), Provost of Merchants and President of the Grand Council, this work presents a state of the officers of the city of Paris, with their arms engraved in shields with legends. It is entirely engraved on copper by P.-F. Beaumont. 1 title-frontispiece; 118 leaves (numbered 1-83, 83-117), most of which are plates of coats of arms (including 4 fold-outs), and a few are intermediate titles. As in some copies, this one has been enriched with escutcheons and captions glued to the piece on the blank escutcheons of existing engraved plates, and sometimes on added plates; some added plates have remained blank.
