BRISEUX (Charles Étienne). L'art de bâtir des maisons de campagne, où l'on traite de leur distribution, de leur construction, & de leur décoration. A Paris, chez Prault père, 1743. 2 vols. in-4, XVI-162 + XII-196 p., fr., pl., contemporary speckled blond basane, 5-nerved spine, fawn title and tomaison pieces, ornate caissons, red edges (defects including 3 uncovered headpieces, worn corners, qq. snags in margins, scattered russeting and browning). First edition of this important treatise by the architect C.-E. Briseux (c. 1680-1754), and his principal work, describing the principles of construction and decoration established in the tradition of François Blondel. It includes a frontispiece and 260 copper-engraved plates that perfectly illustrate the characteristics of the Louis XV style, particularly in terms of interior decoration.
