PAUL McCOBB (Medford, Massachusetts, 1917 - 1969) for Winchendon "Planner Group". Rare combination of a green and black McCobb Cabinet on a white McCobb Bench. Maple wood. In very good condition with some lacquer chipping. Measurements: 87 x 156 x 46 cm. This set formed by McCobb Cabinet green and black on a white McCobb Bench is distinguished by its timeless elegance and functional simplicity, basic characteristics of McCobb's creative language. Paul McCobb was a self-taught designer particularly interested in perspective and scale whose creations were distinguished by the use of simple forms, fine lines and a marked lightness. He was a strong advocate of the importance of accessible and affordable design, so he worked with manufacturers to develop modern furniture solutions that were accessible to the average consumer. In 1945 he founded his own firm, Paul McCobb Design Associates, and began designing furniture for manufacturers such as Winchendon Furniture Company, H. Sacks & Sons and Directional Furniture. Among his most famous designs were the Planner Group collection for Winchendon Furniture, which included blond wood bookcases, desks and chairs, and the Irwin collection for Calvin Furniture, featuring chrome-plated metal and glass furniture.
