PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN
Oil on oval canvas, cm.62 x 48
ORIGIN
Roman family
The illustrative features of this portrait of a gentleman with headdress, typical of works produced in 18th-century northern Italy, recall in pictorial and expressive quality the works of Giacomo Ceruti of Lombardy. The artist, known for depicting with vivid realism the popular and beggarly classes, also worked in the portrait genre, with a pictorial rendering capable of extrapolating with subtle psychological introspection the character of the characters represented. These peculiar characteristics, made him one of the most singular protagonists of the 18th century painting scene
