Painter, engraver and scenographer, Amat develops a work ascribed to the experimental and conceptual tendencies of the seventies. His themes revolve around death, violence, sex and architectures, real or imaginary. Trained in Barcelona, between 1975 and 1982 he traveled through North Africa, Mexico and the United States. He has exhibited in France, Germany, Italy and the United States, and between 1993 and 1994 he was the subject of a major retrospective at the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico, the Fundación Joan Miró and the Instituto de América in Granada. Amat is represented at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona.
