Portrait of Empress Elisabeth Alexievna of Russia, née Princess Louise de Bade (1779-1826). Oil on canvas, preserved in an antique gilded wood frame. Restoration, lining. H.: 81 cm - W.: 62 cm. History: In this portrait, the young Grand Duchess wears the small diamond crown of the Empresses, the plaque of the Order of St. Catherine, the large ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew and a diamond-set medallion around her neck with the central figure of her husband, Emperor Alexander I. Reference: this portrait, painted between 1796 and 1797, is in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg (inv. ERJ-613); two other versions from the same period as our portrait are known and are in Pavlovsk Palace (inv. JR-216) and the National Museum of Architectural and Historical Art in Pskov (in this version, the central medallion is adorned with a miniature of Alexander I, not his monogram as in our version. The first was exhibited in Paris in 1989 and can be seen in the book "St. Petersburg um 1800", 1990, pages 76 and 194.
