DAVID SHRIGLEY (Macclesfield, England, 1968). "Unopened head", 2004. Ink on paper. Unique piece. Measurements: 42 x 34 cm; 48 x 40 cm (frame). Shrigley, who considers himself an outsider in the art world, is known for creating flat compositions that address the inconsequential, strange and disturbing elements of everyday life from an apparently naïve point of view, but full of irony and satire. His language is based on the use of crossed-out words, scribbles and irregular lines. Shrigley's work has been exhibited at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Statens Museum of Art in Copenhagen, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. In 2013, he was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize for his solo exhibition David Shrigley: Brain Activity at the Hayward Gallery in London. He is also active in film, sculpture, photography and illustration.
