XURXO ORO CLARO ( Loeda, Ourense, October 12, 1955 ). "Pincushion". Glass and steel. Presents adhesive stain on the steel. Measurements: 242 x 17 x 2 cm. Monumental sculpture made of glass with steel reinforcements representing a mundane object. Increasing its dimensions and changing the usual materials, the artist plays with everyday life and decontextualizes it, turning regularity into art. Forcing the viewer to look at what normally goes unnoticed. Xurxo Oro Claro held his first solo exhibition at the El Rincón del Arte gallery in Ourense in 1982. A year later, he moved to London where he came into contact with the work of the American abstract expressionists. During his stay he exhibited at the Mall Gallery and the Harrow Art Society. In 1985 he began to explore the field of sculpture, working with stone, iron, wood, stainless steel and industrial elements. It was from the nineties onwards when he revitalized his exhibition career, exhibiting both in group and solo shows internationally. Adhesive stain on the steel.
