VIETNAM, 19th century,
Two celestial generals in brown, red and gilded lacquered bronze, depicted standing, wearing helmets topped by a monkey's head for one, and a dragon's head for the other, each resting on a Ningbo wood terrace, decorated with friezes of geometric motifs, supported by a large gilded red wood sheath, decorated with calligraphy in a central cartouche surrounded by dragons and lotus flowers spat out by two dragons.

Provenance: Yonne property, brought back by the great-grandfather of the current owners from the Tonkin War in 1886, and in the same family ever since.
