IBIS STATUETTE The animal is represented lying down, the body carved in wood, the bronze legs cast separately and the head inserted into the body, with a bronze tail section, the legs bent with tenons underneath and long talons, with a sinuous shape. Curved neck and beak, incised feather details on legs and tail. Wood and bronze. 21 x 32 cm Egypt, Late Period-Ptolemaic period, 664-30 B.C. Provenance : Private collection from a large estate in the South of France. In the family since the 19th century. A Late to Ptolemaic period wood and bronze Recumbent Ibis. Depicted lying down, the body carved from wood, the bronze legs cast separately and the head inserted into the body, with a bronze tail section, the legs folded over with tenons underneath and long claws, with a sinuous form. Curved neck and beak, details of leg and tail feathers incised. 664-30 BCE Provenance French private collection
