The present work recalls the controlled and refined technique of Stella's sketches, often presenting classically attired figures in grand, ornamented architectural settings. This approach is evident in a drawing by Stella in the Metropolitan Museum of Art [62.130.3], and in two works in the collection of The Morgan Library & Museum [1995.6 and 1986.114].
