Note:
The present work depicts James Scott (1649-1685), 1st Duke of Monmouth and 1st Duke of Buccleuch, who was the illegitimate son of King Charles II (1630-1685) and his first mistress, Lucy Walter (c.1630-1658). He is perhaps best known for leading the 'Monmouth Rebellion' in 1685 against his uncle, King James II (1633-1701), for which he was executed in the same year.
