Herbert Edwin Pelham Hughes-Stanton, RA RWS, British 1870-1937- Landscape view with a figure working in the fields, with woods and cottages beyond; oil on canvas, signed and dated 'H. Hughes-Stanton / 1892' (lower right), 61 x 91.7 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Hughes-Stanton was known for his expansive, romantic landscapes, of which the present work is a classic example, depicting an idealised pastoral view in the British countryside, occupied only by a small figure working in the golden wheat fields to the foreground. Hughes-Stanton was part of an artistic dynasty, as the son of William Hughes (1842-1901), and the father of Blair Hughes-Stanton (1902-1981).
