After training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Breslau under Arnold Busch, among others, he worked as a decorative painter and draughtsman from 1910. After a war injury, he settled in Mannheim around 1917 and successfully painted scenes of the Schwetzingen palace gardens and the Mannheim grounds. The nude shown here was probably painted after one of his trips to Italy.
