Fine privately purchased Officer's saber, late 18th century. Flat-backed straight blade, throat and fine gutter highlighting the back, the last quarter bearing a counter-edge, the blade bears engraved on both sides, in addition to a trophy of arms and the great crowned arms of France surmounting a radiant sun, the signature Dumas et Bouchon Maîtres Fourbisseurs in the Grand Rue in Montpellier. Gilt bronze mounting, flat cylindrical pommel, slightly concave top with raised oval riveting knob. Flat, open-cut main guard branch joining an equally open-cut symmetrical plate, a second guard branch separates from the main branch at the start and joins the widely open-cut guard plate bearing a medallion also open-cut with the two initials "CC". Long-tailed cap, smooth ebony spindle, no scabbard. Slight oxidation on the blade.
