Peru, 17th century Oil on canvas. Depiction of the Mystical Marriage of St. Catherine of Alexandria. Full-length portrait of the saint with her sword and wheel attributes. Next to her, raised, sits Mary with the boy Jesus on her lap. Her gaze slightly lowered, Catherine extends her right hand to the infant Jesus. At the bottom left, in a cartouche held by an angel, the life of the saint is described in Spanish. (Overpainting, doubl., rest., craquelure). 206 x 115 cm. (208 x 117 cm). R. This subject depicts the saint's dream vision: The renunciation of marriage and the idealized marriage to Jesus.
