Omega W.W.W "Dirty Dozen" military watch circa 1944 Round steel case. Black dial with Arabic numerals featuring the Broad Arrow symbol of the British army, railway track, luminescent hour markers, small seconds at six o'clock, luminescent sword hands. Screw-down caseback engraved with Broad Arrow, W.W.W (Wrist Watch Waterproof), assignment number Y988 and serial number 10665187 (number repeated inside). Fixed lugs. Signed hand-wound mechanical movement, calibre 30T2 with 15 jewels, numbered 10296476 Green Nato strap Diameter 35 mm Condition report: small seconds hand attached, luminescent indexes slightly missing During the Second World War, the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) wanted to equip its soldiers with watches with specific features: water-resistant, Arabic numerals and small seconds at 6 o'clock on a black background, and luminescent elements for greater legibility. The Broad Arrow logo marking the Crown and the posting numbers completed the specifications, which were sent to 12 Swiss brands, hence the nickname "Dirty Dozen". Some 145,000 watches were ordered from Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex, to be worn by British soldiers during their various operations.
