Marcantonio Bassetti, born in Verona, was trained in the workshop of Felice Brusasorci and after 1605 he moved to Venice where he completed his training and became a friend of Palma il Giovane. Between 1615 and 1620 he was in Rome with his Veronese colleagues Turchi and Ottino. According to Ridolfi, he had a special gift for drawing. Of his stay in Venice he says: "He stayed there for some time, copying the most excellent paintings of Tintoretto, nor was there a young person in his time who would more accurately report them in drawings such as the touch of white and black oil on the paper. . In this way many still see some of his inventions ... "In 1616 Marcantonio wrote from Rome to Jacopo Palma informing him that he had given life to a Venetian Academy," drawing the attitudes with brushes and colors "and showing" that when you draw you paint again ".
