Engraved by I.A. Sedlmayr from the original drawings of Eduard Poeppig. The views were included in the work: "Reise in Chile, Peru und auf dem Amazonenstrome während der Jahre 1827-1832," Leipzig, 1835-1836.Eduard Friedrich Poeppig, 1798-1868, was a German zoologist and explorer. Between 1826 and 1832 he visited Chile, Peru and Brazil making observations and producing a series of drawings, watercolors of the areas he visited. He described over 4,000 plant species, investigated Incan ruins and traveled the entire length of the Amazon River. Upon his return to Germany in 1832, he wrote of his travels producing "Reise in Chile, Peru und auf dem Amazonenstrome während der Jahre...," a collection of sixteen lithographs based on his drawings and watercolors.
