Atlas. ZATTA - RAYNAL. Storia dell’America settentrionale. 2 vols. folio 418 x 277 mm. Contemporary marbled cardboard binding, traces of paper label on the back of the first volume. Vol. 1: XVIII, 124 pp. + [II] XI [II] handcolored maps with reinforcement + 6 pp. of the "Catalogue of the Associated Gentlemen." 15 colored plates. Vol. II: [II] 62 pp. Engraved vignette on titlepages, headpieces and engraved initial on the first volume, text on two columns. Nice copy. Rare First Edition of this important atlas, complete with its 15 hand-colored maps, which constitute Zatta's interpretation with corrections of the famous map of the United States drawn by John Mitchell in 1755, as explained by Zatta in the "Editor's Warning." The decorative title page with an internal map of Bermuda is followed by a general map of the thirteen colonies, by 12 sheets detailing the territories of the United States of which they form a large map, in this work there is also a map of the "New Land Islands and Cape Breton," and one of "Baja d'Hudson, Land of Labrador, and Greenland with adjacent islands." The maps were later included by Zatta in his famous Atlante novissimo.
