Civil law in the ancien regime. D'AGUESSEAU. Memoire pour M. Etienne Guespin, Jure-Priseur au Bailliage de Chinon & Justices y ressortissantes, Appellant; Contre Messire Fortune Bouin de Noire...
4to. 252x195 mm. Pp. 12 (the last page with error of numeration). Illustrated headpiece with floral motifs. Traces of wear and slight sign of humidity in the inner bottom margin.
Dispute between bailiff Etienne Guespin and Magistrate Bouin de Noire, concerning the sale of furniture from an inheritance. D'Aguesseau, who defends Mr. Guespin, deals with the duties and rights of the Jure-Priseur, synthetically tracing the history of this important judicial institution in the Ancien Regime. Subsequently, the Marquis D'Aguesseau, 1752-1826, will be elected to the States General, will stand aside during the revolution, will be Senator in the First Empire and Peer of France with Louis XVIII.
