The impressive iconography depicts a gold coin with the French revolutionary motto and a large rooster ready to peck a terrified German soldier on his knees.Posters were an excellent means of propaganda and many were created with allegorical 'patriotic' themes, intended to arouse emotion and generosity.Jules Abel Faivre, 1867-1945, French painter, illustrator and cartoonist, member of the Société des Artistes Français, became famous by creating propaganda posters for the French army in the First World War. He drew comics for Le Rire, L'Écho de Paris and Le Figaro.
