CANTAGALLINA. Landscape with village in the background. CANTAGALLINA, Remigio. Landscape with village in the background. 1582 or 1583 - 1656 Black pen drawing on heavy paper. Sheet of 127x183 mm. Squared image with pen. Small gap in the lower left, otherwise in good condition. Interesting genre scene with a glimpse of an outdoor table with diners, drawn with the rapid and precise lines typical of the style of the Tuscan painter and engraver. Born in Sansepolcro, he was a pupil of Giulio Parigi and initially devoted himself to painting. He later became an engraver and from 1612 to 1613 he went to the B Axis countries where he made more than one hundred engravings of views and cities, inspired by the work of Paul Brill. He was master of drawing of the Arezzo scientist and naturalist Francesco Redi and taught the art of engraving to Jacques Callot and Stefano Della Bella.
