In the caption, handwritten by the artist, a funny mockery of surrealism: Vous appelez ça un bel homme? -Dame. Un gaillard de cinq pieds six pouces... "The cartoonist Louis Frick was a prolific illustrator of humorous contributions in numerous French publications from the 1930s onwards. His works appeared in, among others, "Marianne" (33), "L'Avant-Garde" (34), "La Flèche" (34-35), "Freitag" (36-37), "Grüsse" (38-39), "Messidor" (38-39), and "Le Canard Encha'iné" (34-40). His clean, precise style gained great popularity and made him a well-known figure in his time. After WWII, he continued his career as an illustrator at "Le Hérisson" and at "Képi Blanc," the latter being a monthly magazine of the Foreign Legion, in which he had served earlier. Additionally, he primarily worked as a jewelry designer.
