ROSA. Le Figurine. 4to. 238x194 mm. Complete series of 60 plates engraved on copper, numbered 1-60 with starts from illustrated titlepage. Foxing in the first 4 plates, but nice condition with plates with wide margins. This work, better known as "Le Figurine," published by the French publisher and engraver François Chéreau, in rue St Jacques, Paris, under the title "Salvator Rosa Invenit. Liber Primus ". The title "Liber Secundus" compares on plate 16; the title "Liber Tertius" on plate 31. In both these plates, under the image, the inscription "Salv. Rosa pinx ". The first edition of this series, better known as the Figurine, was made by Rosa in 62 etching plates engraved between 1656 and 1657. At least eight different copies of the same edition were made between the end of the 17th and the first half of the 18th century.
