CUZQUEÑA SCHOOL 18th century
Adoration of the shepherds
Oil on canvas
Measurements 66.5 x 91 cm
This canvas represents one of the favorite themes of Cuzco painting, the Adoration of the Kings. To make this composition, the painter probably used the engraving of the Adoration of the Magi by Gerard Seghers (1591-1651), engraved by Paul Pontius in 1631. The figures are arranged in a single plane, favoring the narration of the subject. The canvas follows the Cuzco taste, for the color and the introduction of purely Andean techniques such as the use of brocateado.
